The M-65 Field Jacket, widely regarded as the ultimate U.S. military field jacket, continues to enjoy overwhelming popularity today.

This particular jacket is an early example of the 2nd Model featuring a mid-1960s early contract label—a version we particularly recommend among the many M-65s available.

Adopted in 1965, the M-65 is the U.S. military’s iconic field jacket, serving as the successor to the M-51 Field Jacket and remaining in service for an extended period beginning during the Vietnam War.It features a highly refined design suited for combat, including a hood stowed inside the stand-up collar, four large flap pockets, drawstrings at the waist and hem, and a layering system that allows for the attachment of a liner.

It is a timeless masterpiece in the history of military wear that has had a profound influence on subsequent outdoor apparel and fashion.

This item is the 2nd Model.

A key distinguishing feature is the addition of shoulder epaulets, which were absent from the 1st Model. Furthermore, since the main zipper was changed to brass in the later 3rd Model, the combination of epaulets and an aluminum zipper is a detail that symbolizes the 2nd Model.

As you can see in the photos, the silver aluminum zipper exudes the striking presence unique to early M-65 jackets.

Furthermore, this particular jacket is an early contract label model, dating from the very beginning of the 2nd Model run. It’s a highly appealing vintage piece that strongly captures the atmosphere of the 1960s, as the Vietnam War began to escalate.

The size is MEDIUM-REGULAR, which is in high demand. The label bears the Stock No. “8405-782-2939.” It’s a great size—neither too large nor too small—making it very comfortable and easy to wear.

Additionally, this item comes with a liner in the same MEDIUM size.

The liner is not a U.S. military-issued item but a civilian product manufactured by LAKEVIEW SPORTSWEAR CO., INC.The label clearly reads “LINER, COLD, WEATHER COAT” and “MADE IN U.S.A.”, and it is the same MEDIUM size as the outer jacket. It features a quilted design with a 100% nylon outer shell and polyester filling, and can be attached to the M-65 jacket for use.

Although it isn’t paired with the original issued liner, this set is actually quite practical. While the M-65 jacket on its own is best suited for spring and fall, adding the liner makes it well-suited for Japanese winters, allowing you to enjoy a single jacket over a long season. The condition is also appealing.

While it is not in brand-new or deadstock condition—and does show signs of use and aging appropriate for its age—this M-65 from the 1960s maintains a clean overall appearance. The main aluminum zipper shows some corrosion but remains functional. The aging typical of aluminum parts is also a feature that lends it the authentic feel of an early M-65.

The body doesn’t look excessively worn, and the OG-107 color remains vivid.

It’s in a condition that allows you to enjoy it as a vintage piece while continuing to wear it and let it develop its own character over time. This is a highly recommended jacket not just for collectors, but also for anyone who wants to wear an authentic 1960s M-65 in their daily life.

2nd Model, early contract label, aluminum zipper, MEDIUM-REGULAR. It also comes with a liner of the same size that will keep you warm well into winter.

While there are certainly many M-65s out there, it’s by no means easy to find one that meets all the criteria—spanning the era, featuring early details, and offering a comfortable fit and excellent condition.

An early 2nd Model M-65 that perfectly captures the spirit of the Vietnam War era.

Historical context, intricate details, and overwhelming practicality that still holds up today.

Condition: USED. While not brand-new or deadstock, it shows signs of wear appropriate for its age but is in good overall condition. There is some corrosion on the main zipper, but it remains functional. The liner is a civilian item, not an official U.S. military issue. Please also refer to the photos.

As this is a used item, returns are not accepted. Thank you for your understanding.
