This is the 4th Model of the U.S. Army Tropical Combat Trousers—commonly known as “jungle fatigues”—which were iconic during the Vietnam War era. Sizes range from S to R, and they are in excellent, nearly unused condition. They are from a production run dating back to around the late 1960s.
The most distinctive feature of the 4th Model is the cotton ripstop fabric, adopted to enhance durability. It features functional details designed for combat in tropical regions, such as large cargo pockets, adjusters on both sides of the waist, and a drawcord at the hem. This is an indispensable piece in the history of U.S. military uniforms that has had a significant influence on modern cargo pants.
The size is SMALL-REGULAR. The inner size tag reads “WAIST 27 TO 31 INCHES / INSEAM 29 1/2 TO 32 1/2 INCHES” and lists Stock No. 8405-935-3305.
The condition is particularly noteworthy. While there are some signs of wear, the fabric’s color and body have held up exceptionally well, and judging by the condition of the tags, this is a very fine pair, nearly unused. While we cannot definitively call it complete deadstock, it is in an attractive condition for an authentic fatigue pant from this era. The button fly is another appealing feature.
The original contract tag has been removed. It’s possible it was removed when the garment was released from military surplus, but the details are unclear. Please understand this as part of the unique history inherent to vintage items.
This is an authentic 4th Model from the Vietnam War era in a condition that allows you to actually wear it in and break it in over time. It’s a pair that lets you fully enjoy the texture of the ripstop fabric and its slim, beautiful silhouette.
