The jungle fatigues are known as the combat uniform that symbolizes the Vietnam War. Among them, this is a particularly captivating piece—a 3rd Model, the version most widely used in actual combat—that still bears the original patches and insignia from that era. Size: SMALL-REGULAR.
This 3rd Model jungle fatigues jacket is believed to have been produced under a contract from around 1966–67. It is an early model made from non-ripstop fabric and is a representative model that supported troops on the front lines as the Vietnam War intensified.
Its greatest appeal lies in the patch configuration that remains intact.
On the left shoulder is the “Screaming Eagle” patch of the 101st Airborne Division, known for its valiant and daring combat history, while the right shoulder features the Special Forces insignia denoting the Green Berets.Furthermore, the airborne patch and sergeant’s rank insignia are the original pieces from that era, intact as they were, giving it the authentic feel of actual combat gear—unlike a display item with retrofitted patches.
What is particularly interesting is that traces of where the 101st Airborne Division patch was once attached can be seen on the back of the Special Forces insignia currently sewn on.
This suggests that this soldier may have originally belonged to the 101st Airborne Division before being transferred to Special Forces. Given the history of many outstanding paratroopers volunteering for or transferring to Special Forces during the Vietnam War, this detail invites us to imagine a fascinating story.
Of course, it is impossible to definitively determine his personal history. However, the very fact that we can decipher a soldier’s career path from the traces left behind is precisely what makes authentic, well-worn vintage military gear so compelling.
While some restoration is evident on the chest straps, all the insignia used are authentic originals from that era. Rather than being overly reconstructed, the uniform firmly retains the authentic atmosphere of a genuine war relic that has been repaired and preserved over the years.
This is not just any jungle fatigues.
From the 101st Airborne Division to Special Forces—this is a garment steeped in history that invites you to imagine the journey of a single soldier. We highly recommend this piece not only to collectors of Vietnam War gear but also to anyone seeking vintage items with a genuine story behind them.
