This Night Camouflage was developed in the late 1970s and was in service from the 1980s through the early 1990s. It is a specialized camouflage pattern designed to blur the outlines of soldiers and reduce their visibility when viewed through the older-generation night vision devices (image intensifiers) that were in widespread use at the time.Unlike typical daytime camouflage, it was born from the extremely unique concept of reducing visibility at night.
Originally developed as an over-parka to be worn over combat uniforms such as Choc Chip (6-Color Desert Camo) or Woodland camouflage, it was intended to enhance camouflage effectiveness during nighttime operations. Rather than being used on its own, it is part of a layering system that works in conjunction with existing camouflage uniforms to maximize effectiveness, reflecting the U.S. military’s characteristic pragmatic approach to equipment.
Made from lightweight cotton-nylon fabric, it features functional details designed for real-world combat use, such as a large hood and drawstrings at the waist, hem, and hood. It also includes buttons for attaching a liner, allowing you to enhance warmth in cold weather by adding the dedicated liner.
