This is a Thai-made Tiger Stripe jacket. With black as the dominant base color, it features a highly striking pattern of intricate olive green and brown stripes. It’s a piece that evokes Thailand’s unique military culture, distinct from the Tiger Stripe jackets produced in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War era.
This type is known as a Thai-made tiger stripe primarily seen in the Thai military and border guard units around the 1970s. During and around the time of the Vietnam War, various tiger stripe patterns were produced independently in Southeast Asian countries, but this particular item features a very large proportion of black and deep hues, leading collectors to refer to it as the “Shadow Tiger.”

Light green and brown tiger stripes stand out against a very dark background that’s almost black. It has a distinctly different vibe from the typical gold- or green-based tiger stripes and, true to its name, possesses a profound, “shadow-like” presence. The jacket itself is in excellent condition and appears to be virtually unused. The fabric’s color remains vivid, allowing you to fully appreciate the inherent contrast of the tiger stripes. It features a practical design with a large flap pocket on the chest and utility pockets on the sleeves.
However, please note that the patches currently attached require caution.
The “ADAMS” and “U.S. AIR FORCE” name tapes on the chest, the rank insignia on the collar, and the embroidered insignia above the chest pocket have been added; however, these are all aftermarket additions, and most are replica patches. This item is not being sold as an original setup worn by a service member of that era.
Therefore, the intrinsic value of this item lies not in the patches, but strictly in the Thai-made “Shadow Tiger” jacket itself. Rather than evaluating it as a period piece based on the authenticity or combination of the patches, this is a jacket meant to be appreciated for its rare Thai-made camouflage fabric and the jacket itself.
Looking at the reverse side reveals a print texture different from the front, making this a particularly fascinating specimen for studying and comparing Tiger Stripe fabrics.
