The 1st Model Jungle Fatigue Trousers, representative of U.S. military gear from the early Vietnam War.

This particular pair features a 1964 contract (DSA-1-3144-64-C), as confirmed by the contract label. It is a 1st Model that fully captures the charm of early jungle fatigues, and the size is a practical and welcome MEDIUM-SHORT.

The official name is “TROUSERS, MEN’S, COTTON WIND RESISTANT POPLIN, OG 107.” It is made from lightweight, wind-resistant cotton poplin fabric designed for use in hot and humid tropical regions.

While jungle fatigues are one of the combat uniforms that symbolize the Vietnam War, the 1st Model, in particular, is a collectible piece that retains the very earliest details from before the design was refined into later models. It is packed with practical details designed for tropical combat, such as large cargo pockets, side adjusters at the waist, and a drawcord at the hem.

It’s also a nice touch that the size label and the contract/instruction label are still firmly intact on the inside. The size label reads “MEDIUM-SHORT,“WAIST FROM 31 TO 35 INCHES,” and “INSEAM UP TO 29 1/2 INCHES,” with Stock No. 8405-082-5559.You can also see a “23” stamp on the inside of the waistband.

Furthermore, a major appeal of this particular piece is that it shows relatively little wear.

While there is some fading and signs of aging, the fabric is in good condition for a vintage Jungle Fatie, with no noticeable major damage. It still retains the vibe of the original OG color, and while you can enjoy the unique texture of authentic military gear from over 60 years ago, it remains a pair with a strong presence.

It doesn’t have the uniformity of a brand-new item; instead, it features natural fading that comes from having actually stood the test of time. At the same time, it hasn’t been heavily worn, making it a very well-balanced vintage piece.

Furthermore, the MEDIUM-SHORT size is one we’d like to highlight for those specifically looking for a pair they can actually wear. Early 1st Model jeans are quite old, and opportunities to select specific sizes and conditions are gradually becoming rarer.

1964 contract, 1st Model, MEDIUM-SHORT, with various labels still intact.

This is a charming original jungle fatigues jacket that seems to capture the very essence of the early Vietnam War era. We highly recommend it for both collections and everyday wear. If you’ve been searching for a pair with these specific qualities, don’t miss out on this one.
