These are 1st Model Jungle Fatigue Trousers, one of the earliest versions of the U.S. military’s tropical combat uniform from the Vietnam War era. The estimated size is MEDIUM-REGULAR. Since the name is written on them with what appears to be a permanent marker, this is likely a pair used by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Featuring early design details that clearly distinguish it from later Jungle Fatigue uniforms, this is a highly appealing piece of vintage military gear.

Tropical combat uniforms were adopted in the early 1960s to cope with the hot and humid conditions of Southeast Asia. Made from a lighter cotton fabric than traditional field uniforms, they were designed with a focus on breathability, mobility, and storage capacity.

This item is an early version, believed to be the 1st Model from around 1963–1964. It features a button fly on the front, large cargo pockets on both thighs, and flap pockets on the hips. The cargo pockets still have their long leg-tie straps, and the cuffs are equipped with drawstrings.

Above all, the charm of this particular pair lies in how it has been “used.”

In stark contrast to a pristine, brand-new fatigue uniform, this one shows signs of wear throughout, including fading, scuffs, fine scratches, and pinholes. The olive green is no longer the uniform, even color of a new garment; instead, it has taken on a soft, faded hue with great character due to years of use.A handwritten label reading “STREFFLIN” remains on the inside of the waistband, giving it the unique presence of a military uniform that was actually worn by a soldier.

Early jungle fatigues, in particular, are items where it’s only natural that those worn in actual combat or training show greater wear and tear. This specific pair is by no means in “good condition.” However, for those who want to appreciate the charm of authentic military gear that’s endured more than half a century—including its scratches and fading—this is actually a very cool piece.

Although the size label is missing or illegible, based on the actual measurements and fit, it is estimated to be approximately MEDIUM-REGULAR or MEDIUM-SHORT. Please check the actual measurements below for the exact size.

We do not recommend this item to those seeking pristine deadstock. On the contrary, we highly recommend it to those who say, “I want a 1st Model that was actually used,” or “I want to enjoy the authentic fade and damage typical of the Vietnam War era.”
