Among U.S. Air Force flight jackets, the Air Force Blue N-2A was produced for only a brief period. This jacket retains its striking navy blue color in excellent condition. Size: MEDIUM.
The tag confirms that this jacket was manufactured by S.H. KNOPF MFG. CO., with Order No. AF-22620, under a 1951 contract.The N-2A was adopted by the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a flight jacket for heavy-duty conditions and was originally intended to be worn in combination with matching D-1A flight trousers of the same color.
The U.S. Air Force, which had just separated from the Army Air Forces in 1947, adopted the iconic “Air Force Blue” for its flight wear for a time. The N-2A is a jacket that truly symbolizes that era; subsequently, the N-2B shifted to sage green, prioritizing practicality.Even when placed alongside other models in the N-2 series, this deep navy blue color stands out with a presence all its own.
Furthermore, the greatest appeal of this piece is that the Air Force Blue has retained its deep, beautiful hue. The printing on the tag is clearly visible, and overall, this is a jacket with minimal signs of wear. The shearling lining inside the hood, the fur trim, and the ribbing throughout are all in good condition—a truly delightful state of preservation for a flight jacket dating back approximately 75 years.
The large hood, emblematic of the N-2A, features a unique design that allows it to be opened to the left and right via a central zipper. The front, sleeve pockets, and hood are equipped with vintage-style metal zippers, and the left sleeve features a cigarette/utility pocket. It is packed with details characteristic of early 1950s Heavy Zone flight wear.
This is a used item. Overall, it shows very little wear, and the ribbing remains in relatively good condition. There is some slight staining, primarily on the back, as well as other minor signs of use. Additionally, the front button is missing; given its condition, it’s possible it was intentionally removed. It can be repaired using a replacement button.
