In the late 1940s, as World War II came to an end and U.S. military gear began transitioning into a new era, the U.S. Army M-47 HBT Utility Shirt emerged as a symbol of that transitional period.

This item was produced under the 1947 contract. As an HBT (Herringbone Twill) shirt spanning the era from the immediate postwar period through the Korean War, it boasts a rich OD-7 color and a distinctive herringbone weave that becomes increasingly apparent up close, giving it a truly unique character.

It’s also a fascinating piece for anyone interested in tracing the evolution of U.S. military field wear—from the era preceding the Jungle Fatigue uniform all the way to the OG-107 Utility Shirt.

The front features large flap chest pockets on both sides. Brown-toned buttons, an open collar, and a loose, straight silhouette—rugged details characteristic of the 1940s, distinct from later utility shirts—can be seen throughout.

Furthermore, the insignia on the chest and sleeves are original to the era. The sleeve patch belongs to the 8th Army, a unit that served in postwar Japan and Korea. Unlike plain HBT shirts, this piece has a charm that lets you imagine it was actually worn by a real soldier.A piece bearing a name tag is more than just vintage clothing; it gives a much stronger sense of its presence as military gear from that era.
