The U.S. ARMY M-1941 FIELD JACKET is one of the iconic field jackets of the U.S. Army during World War II. The size is estimated to be around 42–44.

Among collectors, this jacket is widely known as the “M-41,” “M-1941,” or “Parsons Jacket.” Officially designated at the time as the “Jacket, Field, Olive Drab,” its prototype was adopted in 1940.It also symbolizes a new philosophy within the U.S. Army at the time: distinguishing between functional field clothing and service/dress uniforms. In May 1941, a modified version was standardized, featuring additions such as shoulder loops and the removal of pocket flaps.

This jacket features details that are quintessentially characteristic of the WWII era.

The outer fabric is a lightweight, high-density olive drab cotton, while the interior features a brown wool/flannel lining. The M-41 was developed based on the concept of a “lightweight field jacket that could be carried at all times”; its short length was designed to keep the weight down while ensuring the soldier’s freedom of movement.

The front features a double-layered construction consisting of a zipper and a button-fastened wind flap. This double-layered closure is an extremely practical detail designed to prevent wind from entering.U.S. Army documents from that era confirm that the M-41 featured a cotton poplin shell, a flannel lining, a front zipper with a buttoned flap, and adjusters at the cuffs and waist.

This item is equipped with a TALON metal zipper. The M-41 utilized zippers from multiple manufacturers, including TALON, CONMAR, and CROWN, and these original metal parts are a major part of the unique appeal of WWII vintage items.

With its diagonal slash pockets on both sides, shoulder loops, button adjusters at the cuffs, and adjustment buttons at the back waist, this jacket embodies the M-41’s signature simple yet highly refined design.Compared to its successor, the M-1943 field jacket, it is overwhelmingly lightweight, and its appeal lies in the fact that it can be worn like a cross between a shirt and a jacket.

The M-41 was used as the quintessential field jacket when the U.S. military entered World War II, and it later evolved into the M-1943 field uniform, which placed greater emphasis on layering. In short, it is an indispensable piece when discussing the evolution of U.S. military field jackets during World War II.

What makes this particular piece so wonderful is that it retains the authentic feel of a genuine article that has endured for over 80 years.

It shows overall signs of wear, with stains and dirt visible primarily on the sleeves and back. There is also an L-shaped repair on the right sleeve. While it is wearable as is, we can reinforce the repaired area before shipping if you prefer. It is by no means in mint condition. However, including the faded olive hue, subtle stains, repair marks, wool lining, and even the old TALON zipper, it possesses a tremendous presence that can only be found in an original WWII jacket that has truly survived the test of time.

The texture of the fabric and its patina are something a replica could never fully replicate. It’s a wonderful piece to admire as a historical artifact, and of course, it looks absolutely fantastic when worn as a vintage jacket.
