This is a CISO cut boonie hat in the Okinawa Tiger pattern, estimated to have been manufactured in the mid-1960s. It has the distinctive Japanese-made size tag in red letters on a white background. This is one of the characteristics of CISO-made boonie hats seen in lots around the mid-1960s. The hat is not locked, so it is frayed after washing.
Overall, the hat has shrunk. The fabric has a slightly rough feel, but is made of a beautifully colored fabric with a distinctive bright green color. It has been washed, but the color remains beautiful, so there is a possibility that the item remained unused after the war and was worn by a collector who acquired it. It has a QM stamp of South Vietnam, though we do not know why. It is also possible that the stamp was added at a time when a number of small-sized, actual postwar Surplus Tiger Boonies were sold at retail stores in Okinawa. We have handled similar items with the same stamp in the past, so there is no doubt that these items are from the 1960s, but it is possible that many of these items were sold after the war. Please note that we cannot accept returns for these items as they are used. Please understand that this is a used item and cannot be returned.
