Even after the end of the Vietnam War, numerous items of equipment made from actual military materials continued to be produced in Southeast Asia. This boonie hat is a prime example of such items, crafted using a generous amount of authentic U.S. military “shelter half” fabric.

It is believed to have been manufactured in Thailand sometime between the 1980s and 1990s, and its design follows the style of the boonie hats favored by special forces, reconnaissance units, and local troops during the Vietnam War.Details characteristic of boonie hats from that era—such as a shallow crown, a brim of just the right length, belt-style branch loops, and black ventilation holes—have been meticulously recreated.

Its greatest appeal lies in the unique camouflage pattern found only in authentic U.S. military Shelter Half fabric. With a vivid green base reminiscent of a leaf pattern, the lining reveals the brown-toned camouflage characteristic of Shelter Half, allowing you to fully appreciate the texture unique to authentic fabric. Another appealing feature is the soft texture specific to vintage fabric—something that cannot be replicated with new fabric.

While the hat itself is in excellent condition—likely unused—the fabric is actual Shelter Half that was used for military purposes, so it shows some signs of wear and aging. For this reason, we classify it as a replica; however, it is not merely a reissue but a remade item crafted from authentic vintage fabric, making it a highly appealing piece.
