The 4th Model Jungle Fatigue Jacket, a quintessential piece of U.S. military apparel from the Vietnam War era.
This item is a 1969 contract piece, as confirmed by the contract label on the inside. It features OG-107 cotton ripstop fabric, characterized by its checkered weave, making it a garment that truly symbolizes the height of the Vietnam War.
The 4th Model can be considered the ultimate iteration, further refining practicality for tropical regions by omitting epaulets, waist adjusters, and gas flaps found on earlier jungle fatigue jackets. With its four large, diagonally arranged pockets, thin and lightweight ripstop fabric, and a loose, highly mobile silhouette, this design is exceptionally well-crafted—even by today’s fashion standards.
What makes this particular piece so striking, however, are its patches.
On the left sleeve are an “AIRBORNE” tab and the 82nd Airborne Division’s AA shoulder sleeve insignia. On the chest are a “U.S. ARMY” tape, a “SOLTYS” name tape, and a paratrooper badge, while rank insignia and branch insignia are attached to the collar.
The 82nd Airborne Division played a significant role in the Vietnam War; in particular, following the 1968 Tet Offensive, the 3rd Brigade was urgently deployed to Vietnam and continued to engage in operations there thereafter. Consequently, the combination of the 4th Model (1969 contract) and the 82nd Airborne insignia is, given the historical context, exceptionally compelling.
However, based on the stitching and the condition of the item, we believe the patches and insignia on this piece were attached at a later date. We cannot guarantee that this is an original, patched-up item from that era. Please be aware of this in advance, as it is particularly important for collectors.
Nevertheless, the well-worn character of the OG-107 and the airborne-specific patch configuration are outstanding. The pockets and seams show the unique wear patterns typical of vintage items, and the ripstop fabric blends in beautifully with the overall aesthetic.
Additionally, while the size label on the inside of the collar is missing, based on the actual measurements and the overall balance of the garment, it is estimated to be approximately SMALL-REGULAR (S-R). Since this is not an official size designation, please refer to the actual measurements listed below.
The texture of the fabric and the patina of the actual 1969 contract-era body—qualities that a simple reissue could never replicate—are truly unique. Even considering that the patches appear to have been added later, this is a standout piece for anyone who wants to enjoy the 4th Model Jungle Fatigue from the Vietnam War era as a fashion statement.
