One of the U.S. military garments that symbolizes the Vietnam War: the 4th Model Jungle Fatigue Jacket.

This jacket is from the 1969 contract, size MEDIUM-REGULAR (M-R). It has been well-worn and thoroughly washed, resulting in intense fading and a fabric texture that gives it an exceptionally cool look.

A defining feature of the 4th Model is its cotton ripstop fabric, which displays a distinct grid-like weave. Designed as a lightweight combat jacket for deployment in the hot and humid conditions of Southeast Asia, it features four large, diagonally placed pockets. The greatest appeal of this particular jacket is, without a doubt, the character of its well-worn OD color.

Unlike the uniform olive green of a brand-new jacket, the pockets, placket, and collar show significant fading from years of wear and washing. There are also differences in how the color has faded between the body and the pockets, creating a vintage-exclusive look where even the ripstop grid stands out clearly.

Furthermore, the fabric retains a texture that feels as though some sizing remains, giving it a unique stiffness despite being a well-worn field jacket. The combination of this “faded ripstop” and “fabric stiffness” makes for a truly fascinating piece.

A “DAGUE” name tape and a “U.S. AIR FORCE” tape are attached to the chest, and a rank insignia indicating “Captain” is affixed to the collar. These patches were added during a later restoration and were not originally included in this combination.

Therefore, please view this piece not for the story behind the patches themselves, but as a garment crafted to evoke the atmosphere of the era, based on an authentic 4th Model from the 1969 contract.

The size is a welcome MEDIUM-REGULAR. The tag specifies CHEST 37–41 INCHES and HEIGHT 67–71 INCHES. This is a size that is easy to wear even among authentic jungle fatigues and is highly sought after by collectors.

It has a charm all its own, distinct from pieces in pristine condition.

The star of this jacket is the stunning fade that has developed over more than 50 years.

It’s a look unique to vintage pieces—a perfect blend of fabric, stitching, and fading that can’t be easily replicated even by wearing new or replica items. We highly recommend this jacket to those who find pristine jungle fatigues lacking, or who seek the rugged, authentic vibe of a genuine Vietnam War-era piece.

Overall, it shows significant signs of wear, with extensive fading visible throughout. In particular, the pockets, collar, and placket exhibit the characteristic fading typical of vintage pieces. Additionally, the fabric has a slight stiffness, as if it were lightly starched.

All patches have been added later. This is a piece we hope you’ll enjoy for its authentic vintage character, including the signs of wear and aging unique to genuine vintage items.

Please note that returns are not accepted for used items.
