Tiger Stripe Fatigue Setup from VNMC or TQLC, South Vietnam, used in the late 1960s. The pants are dated 1968 and the shirt is dated 1969, but both fall under the same VNMC 4th pattern, commonly known as " Sea Wave " type tiger stripes. Procured by a U.S. Army soldier, this is a great top and bottom set with the name, branch name, and rank insignia directly embroidered on it. It is estimated to be unused from that time.
The Sea Wave pattern is a camouflage used mainly by the South Vietnamese Marines in the late 1960s and features black wavy lines contrasted with a deep green. It is called Sea Wave in part because of its distinctive wave-like pattern. It has a roughness and unique color scheme that is distinctly different from tiger stripes made in Japan and other countries, and is unique to local manufacturing.
The shirt has "U.S. ARMY" and the name of the individual embroidered on it, a very interesting detail that suggests the shirt was worn by a local unit or involved with a mixed unit or advisory group. Additionally, the shoulder patches are from the 73rd surveillance airplane company. This unit is also closely associated with military advisory groups such as reconnaissance, rescue, and supply drops in war zones, so wearing the Tiger Stripe is very reasonable. The collar is embroidered with what appears to be the insignia of the Military Intelligence Department, and the rank insignia are all subdued, making this a combat uniform set-up designed for use in battle.
The fact that such patches and embroidery remain is extremely rare, and it is even rarer that they have the U.S. military insignia attached to them. It strongly tells the operational reality of those days.
The condition is extremely good, close to new.
Both the fabric's firmness and color are excellent, and the sharpness of the print, which is unique to tiger stripes, is still firmly in place. There are almost no signs of actual use, and it is extremely rare to find a VNMC Sea Wave Pattern top and bottom in such good condition. This is a top class Tiger Stripe, locally made in South Vietnam, with a background different from that of the U.S. military issue. This is a very complete set-up, both as a collection piece and as a piece (or pieces) of documentary value. This is a used item and cannot be returned. Please understand.
